José Luis García, president of the Aeronautical and Aerospace Cluster of the Canary Islands and CEO of Atlantic Singular Aircraft, believes that an effort must be made to highlight the undisputed advantages of the islands in this sector.
José Luis points out that, for the moment, Andalusia and Galicia have taken the lead, despite not having the climatic and tax advantages of the Canary Islands, so he understands that it is necessary to make every effort to ensure that a large part of these investments are directed to the islands.
He understands that not promoting research is a political mistake “of great magnitude”, and recalls that the Canary Islands are at the bottom in research. He points out that there are not enough trained people in the islands and that it is necessary to import labor: “However, there are a large number of Canary Islanders in the European Space Agency”.
Regarding this, he considers that the possibilities of the Canary Islands are very wide, not only at the level of lending its aeronautical infrastructures, but also participating in the construction of drones and unmanned craft: “If there are already Canary Islanders who are building drones in the peninsula, I don’t see obstacles for them to be manufactured here”.
Atlantic Singular Aircraft has developed the first remotely piloted seaplane, capable of unloading 1,500 kilos of water in the event of a fire. It has a range of more than 25 hours and is multifunctional, so it can be used for a wide variety of operations.
The Aeronautical and Aerospace Cluster of the Canary Islands is made up of three multinationals and Canary Islands companies in the drone sector. It points out that they are already looking forward to using the infrastructures of the Fuerteventura Technology Park “as soon as the authorities allow it”.
